One of the best makeup products ever created has been the makeup foundation. With the correct foundation, we can basically turn ourselves into glorious queens and live in a moment where we can pretend that we barely have any skin issues and just look our very best. Not saying that we cannot achieve this dreams without makeup, but at the moment, it is what’s making my blackheads hide when I go out. This got me thinking, what is the best foundation for dry skin?
Why dry skin? Because it is a common skin type and at the moment, the weather might be making it worse. A good foundation will be able to help with dry skin and even protect you from the sun. Additionally, a perfect one with last all day, even when you’re outside under the hot sun and probably sweating. There is a foundation out there that will check all our boxes and hopefully, won’t cost us a fortune.
Now, let’s get started with the basics.
What is makeup foundation? – The purpose of makeup foundation
Well, makeup foundation can come in different forms but its main purpose is to provide a base to build your makeup on and to help achieve a specific look. It does help other products like blush go in smoothly. It’s normally applied on the whole face and sometimes around the neck. I have seen some influencers place foundation around their ears as well as their chest but it’s mainly used in the face and neck. It can be used to cover blemishes, skin imperfections, discoloration and a few other skin issues. It can also be used to change slightly change the skin tone. For example, some use foundation in a way where it seems that they have a natural tan and others may use it to seem lighter. It all depends on the makeup artist, the person and their goal.
The most common use is to provide an even finish to the skin. It can be matte or dewy! Many of us just want a uniform look all around and therefore, rely on using makeup foundation. I can tell you that there are some out there that do not need it but if its something you enjoy using, then why not? Don’t forget that foundation can bring other benefits to your skin besides just providing coverage. We’ll talk about that soon.
Different types of foundation – They’re not all the same
There’s a few types of different makeup foundations that can be used. Ideally, you’ll choose the type of foundation based on what works best for you and your skin. Some are easier to manage but others may provide a better finish. It all depends on the person’s skin and as I always like to mention, we are all different! It’s nice to have options so we can decide what works best and not have to stick with a product that we don’t like or feel comfortable using. All foundations are different and they vary from texture, ingredients and even packaging.
- Liquid Foundation
This type of foundation is one of the most popular ones because it glides on smoothly and can be applied easily. It’s a good choice for those with combination or dry skin but it does work for every skin type. Additionally, liquid foundations tend to provide more coverage and it works wonders if your trying to hide some imperfections. There are different versions of liquid foundations. This includes waterproof, 24-hour stay, oil-free and more. It can be applied using your hands, beauty blender or brush.
- Power Foundation
This type of foundation is usually well packaged and it’s very convenient to use on the go. Perfect to use when you’re traveling and it’s usually easy to fit pretty much everywhere. Powder foundation can help reduce oil in the skin and therefore is not frequently suggested for those with dry skin. Additionally, it’s great if you want that natural looking finish and it’s lightweight. You can find it in loose powder or in compressed form.
- Stick Foundation
This is another one that is great to use while traveling and easy to apply. It has a lasting effect on the skin and comes in a solid form. It’s also great for helping dry up the oil on your skin and can even be used as a concealer. The stick foundation is very useful, specially for those who are always on the go. This can be applied directly to the skin or by using hands, makeup brush or beauty blenders.
These are just a few different types of foundations. You can also find mineral powder foundation, spray and cream foundation. The reason why I described those three only is that, based on YouTube video and tutorials on Pinterest, those where the ones that were mostly used (at least in the huge amounts of makeup videos and tutorials I see daily). Additionally, they’re easy to find, use and are considerably affordable.
Makeup Foundation with SPF
A few makeup foundations have additional benefits other than providing a flawless look but some don’t work as well as we believe them to. Some makeup foundation or other makeup products have SPF but the amount they carry is not enough to protect your skin from the sun. Others may think that pilling up different makeup products with SPF will end up providing enough protection but this is not really how it works. I have mentioned before how important it is to use sunscreen when going outside since it can cause different types of skin damage such as premature aging.
It’s recommended to add sunscreen before doing your makeup. An option would be to add sunscreen, wait for it to completely dry and then add your makeup. I’m not saying that makeup foundation with SPF is awful but I do believe in taking care of your skin and if the amount of SPF in makeup don’t actually protect your skin as well as sunscreen, then you should think about adding this protection to your skin.
Remember, using sunscreen doesn’t only protect against sunburns but it may also protect against premature aging, skin damage and can also lower the chances of skin cancer.
